Flora and Fauna Assessment

Preston, Queensland

The proposed construction of an eco-resort and residential subdivision lrf to EGC being commissioned to conduct an extensive flora and fauna survey of the proposed development site which targeted habitats, species and communities of conservation significance and ecological importance.

The ecological assessment involved extensive literature reviews and a comprehensive field study. The field study utilised standard field methods including: small mammal trapping, pitfalls for reptiles and amphibians, spotlighting for nocturnal animals, hair tubes, diurnal searches for reptiles, amphibians and animal tracks, call playback and ultrasonic detection for insectivorous bats over a five day – four night period. The flora survey included aerial photographic interpretation to distinguish likely vegetation communities followed by targeted, site specific surveys. Vegetation assessment was conducted using five field transects and opportunistic sightings when traversing the site.

As part of the ecological assessment, EGC provided a number of recommendations to reduce and mitigate potential impacts on the Rock-wallaby.
